This is an email I received on 2/2/2017 from Dave Pfriem, a '61 graduate of St. Joe's and a former Marianist, who knew many of the Brothers we had as teachers at Latin including Bro. Barhorst - Jim McMahon
Jim, I'm adding Jim Barhorst this morning because I taught with him at The Cardinal Gibbon High in Kalamazoo in 1966, the year I graduated from the University of Dayton. I was on a six-week student teaching assignment. Jim had a private pilot's license and was preparing to work in the African missions. He took me up on a wonderful Saturday trip from Kalamazoo to Holland, Michigan. It happened to be the Tulip Festival in Holland, and I was treated to some gorgeous views of the flowers from the air. I don't know how or why we were permitted to fly that close to the festival, but I'm glad we did. We never landed--it was just a round trip. I think I described this flight in my book, Uncommon Bonds. If I didn't, I should have!
Best regards, Dave
