On the last Friday of every month, Latin Alumni are invited to Muldoon's Saloon and Eatery for food, drink and a good time. The fun begins at 1:30 pm and ends usually in time for the guys to get back home for an afternoon nap. Muldoon's is located at 1020 East 185th Street, Cleveland, Ohio. Watch your Email from Tom Ashdown for official invitation each month.

In a hands up hands down survey, it was found that two of the seven Class of 1962 Latinites around the table had not yet celebrated their eightieth birthday. They all look young to me. We're all getting older but like good wine we're all getting better; we hope.

I survived being a bench warmer but was on a TEAM led by Dan B plus a talented bunch of athletes. Latin back in the day was the best learning experience one could have. Forever purple LK 4/27/2024

Another great Get-Together with our Latin Buddies. Good food and good drink with lots of good conversation. The guys all had a good Lenten lunch of grouper fish dinner or sandwiches, fish tacos or clam chowder. The conversation was mostly about the great Latin football games🏈🏈🏈 during the 1960’s, the Cleveland Browns, and college football. We also talked about High Tech Smartphones. There’s nothing you can’t do with them now. Just ask your grandkids. And there were lots of laughs. We all had a great time and wish the rest of you were there. See you next time.
But we may not be meeting on Good Friday, March 29.

Another great time together. Lots of stories about the good times in grade school and the good times at our beloved Cathedral Latin. We talked about what tuition cost to go to school back in our day and the cost today.
Can you believe tuition at Latin was only $180/year when we were there. Now tuition for private high schools is in the thousands and even tens of thousands. We also analyzed the fate of electric and hybrid automobiles.
There was also lots of stuff to laugh at. See you next month.

Loyalty and Spirit, "we’re still here you bastards “. (1/26/2024)
I asked Larry to explain "we’re still here you bastards “ J McM (1/27/2024)
His response:
The movie is about a Frenchman. Steve McQeen plays the role. He is sentenced to the French penal colony in Guinea. From day one he tries to escape but is caught and it continues. He finally gets away and spends time with a tribe of fishermen. One of his trademarks is a butterfly tattoo on his chest or pappilon. He is caught again and put on an isolated island with nowhere to escape. He collects coconuts and lashes them together throwing them over a cliff into a tidal pool. He leaps to the floating coconuts and climbs on, and the tide and waves push him out to sea. He then yells at his captors “I am still here you bastards" to defy their treatment of him after many attempts to escape. End of story. LK (1/27/2024)

^ The guys met at Muldoon's on 2/23/2018 to eat, drink, and have a good time watching Olympic Curling. With thanks to Bro. John Lemker, they astutely applied their knowledge of physics to explain how the trajectory of the curling stone can be affected by sweeping brooms in front of the stone to raise the ice temperature and create a thin layer of water reducing the friction between the ice surface and the stone. That combined with the applied rotational movement of the stone allows the pathway of the stone to curl while approaching the target zone. Aren't you glad for that explanation! Email from Tom Begley (4/6/2018)
More grist for the mill. I am forwarding an e-mail from Larry Kaminski. Mike Rudd and I met Larry for lunch yesterday in Venice, FL. Larry summed the visit…”time stood still”. Lots of conversation about our lives, our classmates and the 1961 Charity Game! Lots of laughs! Mike wants Larry to write a book; he has such great stories about Latin, Purdue, Broncos, beer distributing, commercial fishing, etc. etc. He’s fun to listen too.
Email from Larry Kaminski
I enjoyed the drive and the visit. A lot of years have passed since Latin but it seems like we were still in the halls just hanging or shooting the bull somewhere... you be well as well as Mike...best to all..lk

^ A unexpected surprise occurred on 7/27/2018 at our monthly Get-Together at Muldoon’s. Ken McCarthy, a 1960 Latin grad and a good friend of Danny Borovac, showed up and announced that he had bricks available from the demolition of our dear alma mater for anyone who wanted them. Ken’s Dad, Wilburt, was a 1932 Latin grad and visited the demolition site in 1981 and collected about 10 of the bricks which he went on to store in his garage for the next 35 years. In 2016 Ken had the driveway of the old homestead replaced and asked the workmen to cut the bricks away from the mortar so that they could be saved as mementos of Cathedral Latin. In 2017 Ken added brass plaques to the bricks showing the CL logo plus the dates 1916, 1979, and 1981 signifying dates of the founding, the closing, and the demolition of the school. At the Get-Together Ken generously gave the brick mementos to the handful of thankful 1962 Latin grads. Unfortunately there are no more bricks available. To reiterate what Tom Ashdown said about our Muldoon's Get-Together on June 26, 2015, the August 26, 2019 attendance was "sparse but the spirit was strong."
Having a great time there were Jim McMahon, Ray Paglio, and Marce Mylen. The guys are hoping for a strong showing on September 14, 2019 for the 57 year reunion of the Cathedral Latin Class of 1962. Make sure that the date is on your calendars and that you plan to attend!
The 57 Year Reunion will be at Muldoon's, 1020 East 185th Street, Cleveland, Ohio, Saturday, September 14, 2019 starting at 6:00pm. Of course, spouses are always welcomed. As Danny Borovac has said: "be there or be square."

Bob Sheahen and John Forhan get together after 58 years
Bob Sheahen sent this email on 2/3/2020
John Forhan and I had lunch on Sunday, February 2, 2020, in Santa Barbara, California.
Even though Santa Barbara is only 100 miles from Los Angeles, John and I had not seen each other since graduation in 1962.
John had gone on to West Point and to law school at Notre Dame and he happened upon Santa Barbara almost by accident. He reports a friend's car broke down in Santa Barbara so John wound up living there for his entire career. He has been married to his Bride for more than 40 years and they have children and grandchildren. His two daughters live near him in Santa Barbara.
John is teaching at Antioch College -- the college has a branch in Santa Barbara.
Santa Barbara is one of the most beautiful cities on earth. It is on the Pacific Ocean and it is old, quaint and elegant. They have a zero growth policy which is rigidly enforced. The population is just under 100,000.
I was visiting Santa Barbara because my son Scott just got a TV job there. He is a news journalist, working his way up. Santa Barbara is his fourth job and he is already on the evening news as a field reporter.
During his first week on the job, Scott asked an old-timer at his station where do reporters go when they leave Santa Barbara -- to New York? Los Angeles? The old-timer replied, "no one ever leaves Santa Barbara."
And John and his family have not left -- and never will.

Class of 1962 March 2020 Anti-Covid 19 Virtual Get-Together
Honest-to-Goodness Genuine Virtual End of the Month Get-Together
Because of that nasty corona virus the Class of 1962 had a genuine virtual Get-Together on 4/24/2020 in the isolation of their own homes, complete with beer and all the joking around that usually goes on at Muldoon's. Tom Ashdown with the help of his daughter Amy set up a ZOOM video conference that allowed us to see, talk to, and hear from all the Latin Guys who signed in. If the corona virus continues to persist, Tom will announce another virtual get-together for next month. On screen are Kevin Bynane, Jim McMahon, Jim Denk, Tom Ashdown, Marce Mylen, Dan Sedlock, Albert Di Iorio, Sam Colacarro, Carmen Cesa, Bob Rustic, and Amy Ashdown Franko. Videos of John Forhan and Danny Borovac went in and out but we were able to listen to their mellow voices. Join us next month especially all you from out of town whom we seldom see; but let's hope all of this nasty stuff is soon behind us. Pray for the health and safety of all our health providers and stay well yourself.

the day after Thanksgiving
Tom Ashdown arranged a dual Get-Together for the local Class of 1962 and the Class Out-of-Towners. Tom's daughter Amy set up a ZOOM meeting so those out of town could meet virtually with the local regulars at Muldoon's the day after Thanksgiving. The locals arrived at Muldoon's at the usual 1:30 while the out-of-towners also clocked in at 1:30 est. It was a fun gathering as usual.
