Mark Croce

CSM Mark Anthony Croce Jr. (Ret) passed away peacefully at his home Friday, July 15, 2011. He was born June 16, 1944 to Mark Sr. and Fanny Croce in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mark is a 1962 alumni of Cathedral Latin School and earned a BA in1981 from the University of Maryland. He proudly served his country for twenty-four years in the US Army retiring as a Command Sergeant
Major (CSM). During his military career he was decorated with two purple hearts in 1968 while in Vietnam. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky; Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Polk, Louisiana; Kaiserslautern, Germany; Fort Huachuca, Arizona; Alconbury, England; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and Fort Lewis, Washington.
After retiring from the Army, he dedicated thirteen years to protecting and serving locally as a Correctional Officer for the Washington State Department of Corrections, where he was awarded Officer of the Year in 1995.
Mark loved his daily crossword puzzles, playing golf, and following his favorite sports teams, but most of all spending time with his family. He was caring, fun loving and well respected by all. Mark’s smile and sense of humor brought joy to all around him.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vera (Gjivanovich); four children Gina Leigh (Bryan), Hallee Sanders (Jason), Margo Brady (Evan), and Joey Croce (Naomi Hawkins); four grandchildren; Max Jr., Anthony, Devan, and Isabella as well as many extended family and friends.
