Remembrances of Coach Marabito from the Class of 1962
Great coach, great man! Was kind enough to explain a few things to me 50 years after I played for him! - Danny Borovac
Coach Marabito used a non nonsense tough guy approach to the game. He came up with a saying that we would be winners or cake eaters. Yes, just soft like cake. It was this approach he used prior to the Collinwood game having a cake delivered to the John Adams locker room. He opened the box and it said To the Latin cake eaters ... it worked because it created a frenzy of wild Lions who rushed on the field and crushed their band and the team. God bless Coach. May he RIDE. He was instrumental in my success on the field in all the years I played. - Larry Kaminski
My memories of coach Marabito are similar to Larry's. He was tough and knew how to inspire his players, especially the cake incident before Collinwood game. He and coaches Ruvolo and Delrosa were close, all coming from same John Adams area. My condolences. RIP. - Bob DeSapri
I remember him stopping by my house on June 4th, 1966 and selling me a Lincoln National Life family plan ( now Lincoln Financial Group) insurance policy which I still have. - Gabe (Nick) Farkash
RIP Coach, he was a special person in my life, well beyond my years at CL, on the field he was exactly as Larry described him, we developed a lot of toughness and pride in our Offensive and Defensive lines, he had a way of making you smile even during a tough
practice with some off the cuff comment or story.- Ray Paglio
Dick and I had a close bond when I was AD. He was always so good to be with. Yes I clearly remember the cake being delivered to the locker room before the Collinwood game. I also remember the bill I recd from John Adams with the damage the team did breaking out of the locker room. It was worth it. Didn’t we also receive a pregame penalty for rushing through the bands as they were playing the national anthem. I have been in contact w Dick over the years. And I will always treasure his friendship. May he Rest In Peace with the saints in heaven.
With sadness. - Myron Achbach
