Jim Szudarek
James (Jim) J. Szudarek of Burr Ridge, age 73, died on February 28, 2017. Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Raymond and Agnes Szudarek. He attended Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland. On an ROTC scholarship, he graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Business. After graduation, he served in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969, where he earned a Bronze Star. During this time, he developed his aversion to white rice and his love of travel. He married Ann Burke and together, they had three daughters. Jim worked in the Craftsman division at Sears for too many years to count, and then took his knowledge of hand tools to a tool supplier and restarted his global travel. He enjoyed working in the yard and collecting things of all sorts and could fix anything under the sun. Jim loved going to the lake, spending time with his family, bargain hunting, and passing on useful information and jokes. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ann; daughters, Julie (Todd Entzminger), Lori, Mary (Joe Janusonis) and four grandchildren: McKenna, Sloane, Paxton and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and brother, Joe. Jim will be dearly missed. Visitation Sunday, March 5, 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at 8:15 a.m. on Monday at Modell Funeral Home 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien, IL, . Mass on Monday, March 6, 10:00 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Hinsdale, Ill. and interment following at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.
